Select A Course: Nutrition Course Water management Nestlé Professional has been working in collaboration with The British Nutrition Foundation (BNF) to launch an online nutrition course for those involved in catering. The course is accessed online, covers the basics of nutrition and challenges individuals to apply what they learn in practical situations. The course is open to everyone at the great value price of £25 each, payable online directly to the BNF. The BNF is a registered charity established over 40 years ago and exists to deliver authoritative, evidence-based information on food and nutrition in the context of health and lifestyle. This online health and wellbeing courseincludes six in-depth modules which are: Module 1 Introduction to eating and drinking well Introduces “The eatwell plate” as the UK’s official healthy eating guide and highlights the importance of following it to achieve a healthy, varied diet. This module also shows how to apply the Department of Health’s eight tips for healthy living. Module 2 Energy and nutrients Presents the importance of energy and nutrients, dietary fibre and water, their functions and sources, and how different people require different amounts of these. Module 3 Nutritional needs through life Introduces the key stages in life and the changes in energy and nutritional requirements to maintain health. Module 4 Diet and lifestyle and their impact on health Explores the concept of malnutrition, including over and under nutrition, and some lifestyle related diseases. This module also demonstrates how diet and physical activity can impact on health. Module 5 Understanding food labels Describes the functions of food labels, the type of information which appears on food packaging and nutrition labelling. It also aims to raise awareness of the calorie labelling scheme implemented by some food businesses. Module 6 Catering for Health: incorporating healthier practices into catering Demonstrates ways to provide healthier ingredients, prepare, cook and serve food in healthier ways and market healthier dishes. Each module has an end test, providing feedback on progress. Further reading is also suggested. On successful completion of the final assessment, a personalised certificate from the BNF will be generated.
